Why Universal Acceptance Matters for Global Development
A multilingual foundation with Universal Acceptance is paramount, as it supports non-Latin scripts and TLDs.
This is the core issue the ICANN Universal Acceptance initiative addresses to create an inclusive Internet for all language scripts. Universal Acceptance enables this by supporting Internationalised Domain Names (IDNs) and Email Address Internationalisation (EAI), which allow for domains and emails in local scripts. This fosters crucial digital inclusion, supports local economies, and helps preserve cultural heritage.
Join us in building a truly multilingual Internet by participating in the campaign: virtual event/workshop.
Why You Should Attend This Universal Acceptance Workshop
In line with ICANN’s objectives, KULTUR RIVER C.I.C, in partnership with the Nigerian Languages Data and Sci-Tech Conference, will organise a one-month virtual campaign to raise awareness and rally stakeholder support for an Internet that is representative of all people.
The event, titled: ua_ready_internet_2026 = inclusive_domains + language_diversity # The formula for a globally accessible internet, will take the form of a daily social media posting and virtual workshops, demonstrating how Universal Acceptance (UA) enables an inclusive, multilingual Internet where every domain name and email address works for every user, everywhere. Embodying this global principle, the virtual campaign will be held simultaneously on the social media handles of both partners: KULTUR RIVER in the UK and the NLDSTC in Nigeria, connecting diverse perspectives in a unified mission.
We will also host a meme contest, inviting netizens to create memes that align with the goals of the Universal Acceptance initiative. Winners will receive certificates, vouchers and internet data bundles.
Through Universal Acceptance, digital tools can recognise, validate, process, and display all domain names and email addresses, irrespective of their writing systems.
Universal Acceptance supports Internationalised Domain Names (IDNs); domain names in non-Latin scripts and Email Address Internationalisation (EAI), which allows the use of local languages in both the part before the “@” (e.g., ادريس@) and the domain part after it.
